Percussion-flaked Stone Knife with Antler Hilt

The Woodland Period was characterized by ceramic pottery, bows and arrows, food storage, more elaborate burials and ceremonies, and corn and bean agriculture. Populations increased and hamlets and villages grew. Societies became more complex and took on characteristics now associated with Native Americans or Amerindians. (It is interesting to note that artifacts from this Woodland Period, like the stone knife with antler handle shown above, have been found in the Stafford area but no artifacts of this period have been discovered at Ferry Farm. )
