Oak Grove Baptist Church in Widewater was founded in 1873 and is one of Stafford’s oldest black churches. Originally called Saint Ross Baptist Church, the congregation met in a log cabin until formal structures could be built.  It was the church home of Harlem Renaissance artist, Palmer Hayden.                      (photo: Owen L.
