New Stafford High School
The new Stafford High School, shown here in 1961, approached a modern high school. It remained the county’s only high school (after failing a voter referendum for an additional high school once) until the 1980s. Stafford High School started undergoing renovations in 2013 to bring it on line with the new high schools constructed subsequently: North Stafford High School, Colonial Forge High School, Brooke Point High School, and Mountain View High School. These schools graduate over 5,000 students each year. In 1978, only 25 percent went on to college; today that figure is 75 percent.
