Aquia Episcopal Church is one of only two churches in Virginia that still has a three tiered pulpit.  In Colonial times, the news from Williamsburg, or from the Crown in England, would be read on the bottom tier, Scripture would be read in the middle tier, and the minister would give his sermon on the top tier. The sounding board above the minister would amplify his voice to the entire congregation.
